$8.95 Domain Names Transfers from Dotster

Ostrovsky Sees .info as Investment Play

Will .info domains become sought after and appreciate in value? One believer is Marc Ostrovsky of Internet REIT L.P., who tees .info eventually becoming one of the most desired top-level domains (TLDs).

"I love .info, and I think .info is the next big play," Ostrovsky recently told host Monte Cahn on the Domain Masters podcast on WebmasterRadio.fm. "I have a large investment in .info. What do people go to the Internet for? I think people go to the Internet for information."

At present .info is something of wasteland, given registry operator Afilias' policy of making the domains freely available to registrars - who in turn have mass-registered .info names or sold them for $1 apiece. A large number of .info domains are currently parked and displaying pay-per-click ads. The strategy will ultimately pay dividends for Afilias, which will start generating revenue as many of the 6.4 million registered .info names are renewed. In the meantime, .info names sell for less than other TLDs.

Ostrovsky believes this won't last forever. He was the seller in the record sale of business.com for more than $7 million, so his track record is hard to ignore. The current valuation of .info names makes it an affordable area to roll up a portfolio at a discount.
